The Vision of
the Corte del Vento’s Community
The work on our common Vision was started by Erica, Andrea, Barbara and Lia between summer 2016 and spring 2017: our commitment allowed the project on the ecovillage to return to life. After this, our Vision was resumed and deepened by Alessandro, Nicolas and Caterina, who came to live at the Corte del Vento and joined our community during the autumn of 2017.
During this second phase of the work on our Vision we took inspiration from the Flower of Permaculture.
The present text is provisional, to be considered good enough for the present time and safe enough to be adopted, and it has been drafted and summarized by Erica and Andrea using common notes taken throughout group meetings. It has the purpose of orienting people who have already joined our community, as well as people who want to join it, towards a common direction.
Eventually it will be reviewed and complemented, responding to the needs of the community and the changes in the feelings of its members.
This text states a general view, while for common rules and other aspects we will refer to the Basic Agreements, still to be drafted.
The community is a collective field of awareness, vibrations, energies, far beyond the sum of its individual members.
The community, born from the collective spirit of its members, ultimately becomes the mother/guardian of all.
The community subscribes to the notion of collective resilience and it is founded on the principles of openness, efficiency, equality, inclusion, and mutuality.
Participation in the community is a free and responsible choice, made because of the awareness that there is a side of us that desires to be transformed by the relationship with others.
In the relationship with the other we decide to act with openness and mutuality, giving trust and being reliable; we understand that open confrontation and conflicts can become opportunities of growth. We also realize that problems, in a relationship, are always a mutual responsibility.
We take part in a community that knows its boundaries, recognizing clearly who belongs to it and who doesn’t. At the same time however, it keeps itself open to visitors, guests and volunteers, when there are the energies to receive their inputs and experiences. On this matter we will draft, and update with time, a document including clear directions for everybody, that will be available for whomever is interested.
The community is a place where one can rediscover what is essential, and at the same time experience the abundancy that fills our lives.
The Corte Del Vento will offer common spaces and private ones. Opportunities for socializing, mutual exchanges, common meals and shared work will be promoted, always respecting the need for private moments of each individual and each family joining the community.
We open ourselves with awareness to the people who live in the area surrounding the ecovillage, as long as this relationship can be sustained by the energy of the community and its members, in respect of the delicate balance between our need to network and our need for privacy. We aim to be a workshop for best practices and for the promotion of the local culture. In the basic agreements we will be outlining the methods for accessing spaces, duties and collaborations within the community, so that our vision can be translated into practical actions.
We want to create a community that is able to acknowledge the different and various arts that are necessary for its prosperity; from consensual decision-making methods, shared with awareness, to the implementation of the permaculture principles, empathic and conscious communication, feedback, discussion round tables and dragon dreaming.
We want the community to be able to invest in these kind of arts, in its facilitators and trainers, and to promote the circulation of this knowledge and the learning from other communities. We want to encourage a network of collaboration at local, bioregional and international levels; nevertheless, we want to be aware of how to balance the energy and the frequency of each exchange, according to the needs and the availability of the moment. We want to interact with new communities, to give out more than what we received.
With this purpose in mind, we want to facilitate travel opportunities or common experiences, also by visiting other communities or realities that could be source of inspiration.
In the community we will be giving the proper space not only to actions but also to communal planning, creativity and celebration, always remembering that these are fundamental phases of our development.
Flora e fauna (Land and Nature)
Here in our ecovillage we have a Permaculture approach.
We give value to biodiversity as a piece of community resilience, while at the same time aiming to promote agricultural productivity. In practicing natural agriculture, we experiment with different techniques, appreciating the pursuit of beauty and harmony, and according to the talents and knowledge of each group member.
We believe it is important to get in touch with our wild side, awakened by living in nature.
We encourage children to engage with nature, the land and vegetable gardens, respecting the value of the agricultural work.
We have respect for every living being.
We have chosen to not breed animals for food, but to use with gratitude and care their products and to appreciate their work.
The introduction of new animals, be they pet or working ones, will be evaluated by the group each time, allowing more autonomy to keep the animals in private spaces, but still asking everybody to consider the common vision in shared spaces.
Within the ecovillage, buildings will be functional to the community and the needs of its members.
Each member will have the freedom to design and build their own home, always respecting the necessities of the community, where collective needs have more value than personal ambitions.
We pay attention to the life cycle and the ecological footprint of the materials we use.
We want to promote a basic type of building with a low environmental impact, so that our natural way of living will not become prohibitive.
We aim to create common spaces and we ask each member of the community to invest money and efforts to realize and maintain them.
During the design phase, we will preserve the beauty and the harmony between the buildings and the landscape, as well as try to enhance the energy and the resources of the region while respecting its limits.
We promote a shared self-built type of construction, which is considered a good practice of mutual support, cost reduction and direct connection with the place that hosts us and gives us shelter.
We use technology, devices and tools that are durable, and that can give value to our talents and the energy of the place. In choosing which technologies to use, we consider the real benefits that they produce and their ecological footprint, willing not to be slaves of the fascination of continuous innovation.
We pay attention that the use of technology is done respecting the communal rhythms and spaces, making sure that they do not interfere with natural relationships within families and inhabitants of the community.
We encourage self-production, reuse, recycling, sharing, and caring while planning the cycles of our action as main instruments to reduce our need to adopt and produce new tools.
We envision a community that is able to be waste-free.
Culture and Education
We aim to create spaces and structures dedicated to the education and the sharing of knowledge both for children and grown-ups.
Each family chooses the educational path that is right for its own children in autonomy, but we want to encourage shared and libertarian forms of parental education in touch with nature, as well as mutual support amongst parents.
We identify children as the seeds of the future. We want to promote their active participation into the community and their gradual empowerment in it, according to their own capabilities, the development of their inclinations and the expression of their creativity. We protect the holiness of the relationship between parents and children and the time that has to be devoted to it.
We respect the local culture, the culture of our ancestors and the culture of all those populations who still preserve, with care and wisdom, the land that they inhabit.
We want to promote reading, the creation of a common library/video archive and the sharing of books and knowledge, ancient and new, that will help the implementation of our common vision.
Body and Spirit
We take care of our body and spirit, celebrating and being grateful for the life we have been given in the here and now.
We take care of the well-being of our physical body by leading active lifestyles, by promoting practices of body awareness, and through a diet that is attentive to the quality and variety of the basic ingredients and to the energy of foods, the latter related to their origin and the processes they have undergone. We also encourage the harvest of the edible wild plants that each season offers to us. We pay the same attention in feeding our animals.
We are open to all spiritual expressions and to their sharing, without seeking a single collective spiritual vision, but rather celebrating the diversity among us.
We celebrate a direct and respectful relationship with the elements of nature, and we foster the awareness of the spirit of the place (genius loci) in those who live in our community.
We have a deep respect for the key moments of life, which we express by preserving the sacrality of childbearing and by promoting home birth, natural breastfeeding, conscious education, caring for sick people, and the opportunity to experience old age and death with dignity and self-determination.
Working on ourselves to pursue happiness, wellness, harmony and awareness is a great gift that everyone can bring to the community. At the same time, it is an individual responsibility, in order to ensure our wellbeing within the group and the wellbeing of the group itself.
We encourage every opportunity for playing, dancing, and making art as means to let our soul and body flourish.
Economics is essential in an ecovillage, in order to develop all the other kind of sustainability (social, housing, ecological, spiritual, food...).
We want to create economic resources, based on practices and raw materials that respect the principles of natural and human sustainability, which allow the community to develop and grow, giving everyone the opportunity to participate, but at the same time without removing the possibility that everyone can also produce income outside of the community.
In the community decisions, we evaluate not only the economic costs but also the global energy ones, so that our savings do not translate into a cost for the environment.
We favor non-monetary economic forms, which include the exchange of products and services, time banks, and mutual aid.
According to the possibilities of the moment, we support the members of the community in developing their talents and ideas, so that they can be translated into opportunities for individual self-sufficiency and for the whole community.
Each member is responsible for self-support, and any support agreements from the community to the individuals will always be discussed and subject to common consent.
Each member is required to take part in collective expenses, even in different forms (money, time, work, services, etc.), according to agreements that will be defined and renewed over time.
